An extract from Words to Live By Volume 2
Out soon in a Printed Edition and via Apple iTunes as an ebook.
I was in town earlier, in Costa.. it was busy; full of exasperated mothers - their children forcibly at home I guess... I asked an elderly lady if I could share her table, she nodded without looking up from her newspaper... then took a sip from her tea...
'Life!’ said the women at the next table, ‘is a permanent headache!' Her companion agreed, they talked about the looming doctors strike and pensions and contributions... and tax... then getting summer flu again and the cost of running her Range Rover...
The little old lady at my table looked up as she folded her paper neatly down it's middle... 'I must admit,' she whispered, 'I rather enjoy my life!'
'So do I!' I said in my quietest voice…
'When I enjoy things,' she smiled, 'Like drinking tea for instance, or eating with my friends, a sunny day, or even another day!' She laughed... 'Or my hot water bottle in bed at night. Other people always seem to be thinking of unpleasant things... you know, it makes a difference,' she added as she got up to go...
'It makes all the difference in the world!' I said...
